Specialty Defense Systems

The story of Specialty Defense and Xperia started back in 2001 when a new company president was brought on board to stabilize and grow the company. "We were faced with a system that had trouble monitoring the manufacturing process which in turn caused inaccurate reporting. Inaccurate reporting led to disruptions to the business that were unacceptable.. Knowing the expected company growth path, the current system would not be able to keep up with the demands of its customers and keep the company competitive in the market." "I had a successful experience with the Xperia Comprehensiv™ Solution and wanted to see if they would be a fit for Specialty Defense Systems.

Soldier MOLLEOur evaluation of the Xperia Comprensiv™ Solution proved itself to handle the current capacity levels and would be able to grow with the company. Since its beginnings in 2001 with Xperia, the company has grown from $38 million in annual revenues to over $400 million in annual revenues today. The Xperia Comprehensiv™ Solution has proven itself over time to be a wise investment in our future. The support behind the Xperia Comprehensiv™ Solution is very responsive and complete. The IBM® platform that supports the Xperia Solution has proven reliable and secure.

The Company Today

Specialty Defense systems is a subsidiary of the Armor Holdings company. Armor is a leading provider of effective security solutions to the increasing level of security threats encountered by domestic and foreign law enforcement personnel, governmental agencies and multi-national corporations. Specialty Defense Systems is the home of the the M.O.L.L.E. back pack used in the US Military. The "MOLLE", MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment was introduced in 1997 but did not see widespread issue until after the September 11, 2001 attacks and was used by U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan and later in Iraq. Today, Specialty Defense Systems operations encompass approximately 170,000 square feet of manufacturing space with 6 locations, and a capacity for 700+ direct labor operators. The company attributes this growth to the fact it has continued to meet or exceed its customer's expectations by building quality products, providing timely deliveries, paying attention to detail, and being price competitive.
